Air Curtains

Technical information

Air curtains are a ventilation device that creates an invisible air barrier across an entrance to close two different environments without restricting pedestrian and vehicle mobility, especially in busy workplaces.

Energy-saving air curtains reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 80%, while insulating the air inside the building and increasing comfort. It purifies the environment from insects, dust, airborne substances, odors, and stops cold and hot air currents.

Air curtains mounted on the doors make the air flow more comfortable as people pass through the air barrier and help maintain the desired temperature at the entrance.

All studies prove that air curtains are effective. If an efficient air curtain is installed correctly, it saves a lot of energy and at the same time the climate in the entrance area is relaxed.

The air flow from the air curtains mounted at the top of the door clearly separates the hot zone from the cold zone. On the other hand, an incorrectly designed air curtain, an incorrectly selected device or incorrect installation may partially or completely lose the advantages offered by the air curtains.

Do Air Curtains Work?

In order to clearly answer the question of whether air curtains work, it is necessary to understand the working principle.

In principle, air enters through the suction grille, which can sometimes have a filtering function, is then compressed by fans in the air curtain and directed from the outlet nozzle towards the inlet. The filter protects internal parts such as fans and electronic components from dust.

Air curtains installed to prevent hot or cold air from being directed outward have a heat exchanger to heat or cool the air flow. The heater is used so that people do not feel the cold air flow while passing through the entrance.

Most door air curtains are mounted above the entrance and the air is directed from above to the floor. Vertical air curtains can be placed to the left, right or both sides of the entrance.

From a thermodynamic point of view, the horizontal installation integrated into the floor is the most efficient, but the most expensive due to its installation and the most problematic when pedestrians pass through the entrance. It is therefore only used in certain industrial applications. Air curtain types can be with or without return.

A non-return device simply expels air. A return unit returns air to the intake area. Return air curtains are more efficient, but most air curtain systems are non-reversible because they are less expensive.

Do Air Curtains Heat?

Air curtains themselves are not a heating device. It absorbs the hot air in the environment and directs it out again. Although it does not provide heating itself, it is definitely a very useful device as it preserves the heat of the environment.

It is beneficial in terms of preventing the flow between cold air and hot air. In addition, while there is hot air inside, it is miraculously functional so that someone entering from outside is not affected by the draft between cold air and hot air.

In addition to the energy savings it provides, it prevents the entry of harmful materials. By increasing the comfort of customers and employees, it provides positive feedback to the business.
